Frequently asked questions

What is URL encoding?

Also called percent-encoding: characters that are not allowed or have special meaning in a URL are replaced by % and their byte value in hex. A space becomes %20 and & becomes %26.

Component or full URL?

Use component encoding (on by default) for a single query value, so characters like &, = and / are escaped. Turn it off to encode a whole URL while keeping its structure intact.
